shine home

my absolute favorite lighting comes from a company called shine home. my house would be filled with their lamps, if only i could afford them. for now, drooling over these pictures will have to do. do you have any favorite lighting companies?

garden party

garden party

garden party by walrus studio on Polyvore.com

I created this image on my new favorite website, Polyvore. I was really inspired by the below image from Vogue. I love the magnolias, the avocado green with crisp white, the tufted white benches. It makes me want to have a chic little garden party of my own!

whimsy, lit

If you have a chance to visit downtown Chicago, check out the lobby, or living room as they call it, at the W Hotel. The chic-modern furnishings pair well with the Beaux-Arts historic building. Most impressive are the two towering lamps that nearly reach the second story balcony. To get a similar style lamp for yourself, but at a fraction of the size, check out Jonathan Adler for fantastic lamps with just the right amount of whimsy (the white one is to die for). If these are out of your budget, try a similar look from Z Gallerie. For this one I'd recommend getting a different lampshade, or for you crafty types, try trimming the top and bottom of the shade with black grosgrain ribbon.
